DOC, HANDS OF STEEL

Cinemavixion Review

Alfonso Balcázar's "Doc, Hands of Steel" (1965) plunges viewers into a classic spaghetti western narrative. The film masterfully intertwines the fates of Doc McGregor, a former surgeon thrust into a gunslinger's shoes, and a relentless bounty hunter named Slade. Carl Möhner delivers a compelling performance as Doc, navigating a treacherous path of mistaken identity and escalating conflict. The plot, involving an impersonation of a slain sheriff to quell a notorious bandit, Reyes, is rife with the genre's characteristic tension and moral ambiguity. Supported by the formidable presence of Fernando Sancho and Luis Dávila, the film offers a gritty portrayal of the Old West, where survival often depends on quick draws and even quicker wit. This Spanish-Italian co-production, though perhaps less known than some of its contemporaries, stands as a solid entry in the western canon, exploring themes of justice and adaptation in a lawless land.
