This 1975 recording captures Dizzy Gillespie leading a formidable ensemble, aptly named the 'Big 7.' The session is a vibrant showcase of bebop's enduring spirit, with Gillespie, a foundational architect of the genre, at the helm. He is joined by esteemed collaborators, including Milton "Bags" Jackson on vibes, whose smooth interjections complement Gillespie's fiery trumpet. The legendary tenor saxophone duo of Eddie "Lockjaw" Davis and Johnny Griffin brings their signature grit and improvisational prowess, engaging in a thrilling dialogue throughout the performance. Providing a rock-solid foundation is an exceptional rhythm section featuring the masterful Tommy Flanagan on piano, the lyrical bass lines of Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen, and the dynamic drumming of Mickey Roker.
