DILETTANTES

Cinemavixion Review

Sarah Gibson's "Dilettantes" offers a tender and introspective look at the messy, beautiful complexities of young adulthood. Set against the backdrop of college and the uncertain transition into one's mid-twenties, the film masterfully navigates the blurred lines between deep friendship, burgeoning romance, and the often-painful search for one's true path. Led by a compelling ensemble cast including Samantha Rose Valletta, Luis Rizo, and Zachary Morgan, the narrative follows four individuals—Kat, Lloyd, Archie, and Dannie—as they grapple with their ambitions, secrets, and desires. The film's strength lies in its relatable portrayal of the anxieties and exhilarations of this formative period, where pivotal choices shape not only career trajectories but also the very nature of intimate connections. Gibson's direction imbues the story with a genuine emotional resonance, capturing the bittersweet essence of growth and self-discovery. While the film may not boast widespread critical acclaim or major awards, its authentic depiction of youthful vulnerability and the enduring power of human relationships makes "Dilettantes" a poignant and worthwhile watch for anyone who remembers the exhilarating, terrifying journey of finding oneself.
