DECODING BAQTUN

Cinemavixion Review

Elisabeth Thieriot's documentary, 'Decoding Baqtun', offers a compelling exploration into the intricate world of Mayan and Aztec calendars, skillfully dispelling the sensationalized 'doomsday' prophecies of 2012. Thieriot herself leads this intellectual and visual expedition, traversing the lush landscapes of the Yucatan Peninsula and Guatemala. The film adeptly weaves together historical prophecy with contemporary understanding, challenging viewers to reconsider cyclical patterns in the cosmos and human existence. By engaging with both scientific perspectives and the wisdom of Mayan descendants, 'Decoding Baqtun' provides a nuanced and enlightening look at ancient timekeeping and its enduring relevance. It's a journey that encourages a deeper appreciation for the complex tapestry of human history and our connection to the universe.
