DEATH RIDES A HORSE

Cinemavixion Review

Giulio Petroni's "Death Rides a Horse" is a quintessential Spaghetti Western that masterfully blends stylish action with a compelling narrative of vengeance. Lee Van Cleef, in a role that solidifies his iconic status, plays an aging outlaw whose path crosses with a young, determined gunfighter, portrayed with simmering intensity by John Phillip Law. Their uneasy alliance, driven by a shared, brutal past, forms the emotional core of this 1967 classic. The film's visual flair, characteristic of the genre, is undeniable, complemented by a haunting score that elevates the tension. While its Rotten Tomatoes score of 50% suggests a mixed critical reception, the film's enduring appeal lies in its exploration of justice, fate, and the cyclical nature of violence. It remains a potent entry in the Western canon, rewarding patient viewers with its atmospheric storytelling and memorable performances.
