DEATH ON THE MATTERHORN

Cinemavixion Review

In the annals of mountaineering, few tales are as fraught with both triumph and tragedy as the first ascent of the Matterhorn in 1865. This documentary revisits that fateful expedition, where seven men achieved a historic feat, only to have their victory shattered by a catastrophic accident during their descent. The snapping of a rope, leading to the deaths of four climbers, casts a long shadow over the achievement, raising questions that linger to this day. Was this a cruel twist of fate, or did sinister forces play a part at the formidable altitude of 14,000 feet? Through dramatic on-location re-enactments, forensic analysis, and the insights of experts, the film meticulously reconstructs the events that stunned Victorian society, inviting viewers to ponder the enduring mystery of what truly transpired on that iconic peak.
