DEAD RAPPERS

Cinemavixion Review

In 'Dead Rappers,' director and star Pharoah Powell offers a darkly comedic premise that resonates with the often-unpredictable nature of fame. The film centers on a musician whose career has stalled, only to find posthumous celebrity when he's mistakenly believed to have passed away. Powell, alongside a committed cast including Candace Coogler and Candice Brown-Bryant, navigates the absurdity of the situation with a performance that balances desperation and a wry sense of humor. While the film's narrative might lean into familiar tropes of the entertainment industry, its exploration of legacy and the peculiar ways in which artists can achieve recognition provides a thought-provoking, albeit brief, comedic journey. It’s a film that pokes fun at the industry's obsession with the sensational, offering a unique perspective on what it means to be remembered.
