DEAD MAN'S BURDEN

Cinemavixion Review

Set against the stark beauty of the New Mexico frontier in the aftermath of the Civil War, 'Dead Man's Burden' offers a compelling portrait of survival and simmering resentments. Director Jared Moshe crafts a taut narrative centered on Martha and Heck, a couple whose hopes for a better future are complicated by the arrival of Martha's estranged brother, Wade. The film masterfully explores themes of familial duty, the harsh realities of frontier life, and the secrets that bind and break us. Barlow Jacobs and Clare Bowen deliver nuanced performances as the central couple, their quiet struggles resonating deeply. While the plot summary hints at a tragic past, the film unfolds with a deliberate pace, building tension towards a confrontation that is both inevitable and devastating. With critical acclaim, including a strong showing on Rotten Tomatoes, 'Dead Man's Burden' is a poignant and atmospheric Western that lingers long after the credits roll.
