DAY OF THE GUN

Cinemavixion Review

Wayne Shipley's 'Day of the Gun' plunges viewers into the stark beauty and brutal realities of 1890s Montana. This Western drama, starring a compelling Eric Roberts alongside Raw Leiba and LaDon Hart Hall, masterfully depicts the escalating tensions between a determined widow and a powerful cattle baron. The narrative, centered on a contentious barbed-wire fence that threatens a rancher's livelihood, serves as a potent metaphor for the clash between tradition and encroaching modernity. Shipley skillfully crafts a tale where personal vendettas ignite a wider 'range war,' drawing in families and unearthing long-buried secrets. The film's atmospheric setting and exploration of themes like survival, land rights, and the enduring consequences of the past make it a thought-provoking entry into the Western genre, offering a gritty yet engaging cinematic experience.
