DARK SEA (AKA MAR NEGRE)

Cinemavixion Review

Rodrigo Aragão's "DARK SEA (aka MAR NEGRE)" plunges viewers into a chilling narrative set against the backdrop of a Brazilian fishing village. The film masterfully blends elements of folk horror and visceral gore, centered on the fisherman Peroá and his unsettling encounter with a mysterious sea creature. Aragão, also credited for the film's production design, crafts a distinctively grim atmosphere, enhanced by practical effects that lend a raw, tactile quality to the unfolding terror. The plot takes a dark turn as Peroá's family becomes entangled with the enigmatic figures of the village, including the occult-leaning Albino and the captivating Madame Ursula. The descent into a zombie-fueled nightmare is both shocking and darkly humorous, showcasing Aragão's unique vision within the independent horror scene. "DARK SEA" is a compelling watch for those who appreciate unconventional storytelling and atmospheric dread.
