DARK NIGHT OF THE SCARECROW

Cinemavixion Review

Frank De Felitta's "Dark Night of the Scarecrow" is a chilling and poignant tale that lingers long after the credits roll. The film masterfully blends rural gothic horror with a deeply affecting human drama, centering on the tragic figure of Bubba Ritter, portrayed with heartbreaking vulnerability by Larry Drake. When the intellectually disabled Bubba is wrongly accused of a brutal attack, the ensuing witch hunt culminates in a horrifying act of violence. Yet, the narrative takes a supernatural turn as a vengeful scarecrow begins to stalk those responsible. The film's strength lies in its atmospheric dread and its sensitive exploration of prejudice and injustice. While the plot takes a decidedly eerie turn, the emotional core remains grounded in the injustice faced by Bubba, making "Dark Night of the Scarecrow" a compelling and unsettling watch that explores the darkness lurking beneath the surface of a small town.
