DARK ENCOUNTER

Cinemavixion Review

Carl Strathie's "Dark Encounter" plunges viewers into the unsettling aftermath of grief, where a family's mourning is violently interrupted by an inexplicable phenomenon. The film masterfully blends elements of supernatural horror with science fiction, creating an atmosphere thick with dread and mystery. Laura Fraser and Mel Raido deliver poignant performances as parents grappling with loss, their fragile emotional state amplified by the increasingly terrifying events unfolding around them. Strathie skillfully uses the isolation of their rural setting to heighten the sense of vulnerability, drawing parallels between the family's internal turmoil and the external, otherworldly threat. While the narrative delves into familiar alien encounter tropes, it distinguishes itself through its focus on the human cost of such an event, offering a thought-provoking exploration of loss, belief, and the unknown. The film's chilling tension and its commitment to character-driven drama make it a compelling watch for fans of intelligent, atmospheric thrillers.
