DANGER AHEAD
Cinemavixion Review
Albert Herman's 1935 crime drama, "Danger Ahead," plunges viewers into a murky world of illicit dealings and double-crosses. Lawrence Gray stars as Captain Matthews, a man enticed into a dangerous transaction by the nefarious Nick Conrad, portrayed with chilling efficiency. The narrative kicks off with a hefty sum of $40,000 changing hands for a silk shipment, setting the stage for immediate peril. The film excels in its brisk pacing, quickly establishing the stakes as Matthews is lured away and robbed by Conrad's thugs. However, the plot takes a twist with the timely intervention of Jerry Mason, a sharp newspaper reporter who manages to pilfer the stolen cash from Conrad himself. While perhaps not a groundbreaking cinematic achievement, "Danger Ahead" offers a compelling snapshot of early Hollywood crime thrillers, bolstered by solid performances from Gray, Sheila Bromley, and J. Farrell MacDonald, and remains an engaging watch for fans of the genre.
