Cinemavixion Review

This documentary delves into the harrowing and often unsung operations of the SAS deep behind enemy lines during the crucial D-Day campaign. As Allied forces initiated their assault on the beaches of Normandy, elite SAS units were already engaged in a perilous dance of sabotage and diversionary tactics. Their missions, codenamed Operation Bullbasket and Operation Houndsworth, were designed to cripple German reinforcements and sow confusion through deceptive tactics, including the use of dummy paratroopers. The SAS's daring actions not only inflicted significant damage on enemy infrastructure but also provided invaluable intelligence that bolstered the overall Allied strategy. The film highlights the unit's commitment to executing high-risk missions, even venturing into attempts to target key figures like Field Marshal Rommel and orchestrating daring hostage rescues. Ultimately, the documentary underscores the instrumental role these behind-the-lines operations played in the success of the Normandy landings and the eventual liberation of France, shedding light on the bravery and strategic importance of the SAS in World War II.
