Roger Corman's "Creature from the Haunted Sea" is a delightfully campy B-movie that leans into its absurdity with infectious energy. Set against the backdrop of a Caribbean revolution, the film follows Renzo Capetto, a criminal mastermind who concocts an elaborate scheme involving a mythical sea monster to abscond with a national treasury. The narrative takes a wonderfully meta turn when the titular creature, intended as a hoax, manifests with terrifying (and often hilarious) results. Anthony Carbone delivers a performance that perfectly balances villainous intent with a touch of bewildered panic. While the production values are undeniably low-budget, Corman's keen eye for exploitative fun and a script that embraces its own ludicrousness make this a cult classic worth discovering for its sheer, unadulterated entertainment value.
