CRACKIE

Cinemavixion Review

“Crackie” offers a poignant and unflinching look at the complexities of family and resilience, set against the stark backdrop of Newfoundland. The film centers on Mitsy, a seventeen-year-old navigating a turbulent existence shaped by a distant mother and a stifling grandmother. The narrative gains momentum with the unexpected return of Mitsy's mother, forcing a re-evaluation of loyalty and belonging. Director Sherry White crafts a compelling drama that delves into themes of abandonment, budding sexuality, and the search for identity. Mary Walsh delivers a powerful performance as the grandmother, while Meghan Greeley captures Mitsy's vulnerability and burgeoning strength. The film, recognized with multiple awards, stands as a testament to the enduring human spirit and the often-painful process of forging one's own path, even when surrounded by dysfunction.
