CRACKIE

Cinemavixion Review

Sherry White's "Crackie" offers a poignant and unflinching look at the challenges of adolescence against the stark backdrop of Newfoundland. The film masterfully navigates the complexities of a fractured family, centering on Mitsy, a resilient teenager yearning for stability and a future beyond her difficult circumstances. Her deep affection for a stray dog, Sparky, serves as a touching metaphor for her own need for unconditional love and a safe haven. The narrative unflinchingly portrays the struggles of Mitsy's mother and grandmother, creating a compelling portrait of intergenerational dysfunction. As Mitsy grapples with emerging sexuality and the allure of a local boy, the film sensitively explores themes of hope, self-discovery, and the enduring search for belonging. "Crackie" is a powerful character study, elevated by strong performances and a raw, authentic portrayal of life on "the Rock."
