COUNTRY GENTLEMEN

Cinemavixion Review

"Country Gentlemen" presents a charmingly chaotic comedic romp, anchored by the legendary vaudeville duo Ole Olsen and Chic Johnson. The film, released in 1936, plunges these two crafty con artists into a series of misadventures when a simple act of kindness—offering a young boy a ride—leads to them being falsely accused of kidnapping. Directed by Ralph Staub, the narrative unfolds in a quintessential small town, where mistaken identities and rapid-fire slapstick ensue. While Olsen and Johnson are the undeniable heart of the film, the supporting cast, including Joyce Compton, adds to the delightful ensemble. The plot, as detailed in external sources, involves their stock-selling schemes and a budding romance, all set against the backdrop of small-town suspicion. "Country Gentlemen" is a testament to the enduring appeal of physical comedy and witty banter, offering a lighthearted escape that showcases the comedic talents of its iconic leads.
