COUCH SURVIVOR

Cinemavixion Review

Jonny Walls' "Couch Survivor" (2015) plunges into the absurdities of low-tier television with a premise that is as simple as it is potentially cringe-worthy. The film centers on the executive of a struggling cable network and the participants of his latest, desperate reality show endeavor: a contest to see who can remain seated on a couch the longest for a substantial cash prize. While the concept offers fertile ground for satire on the media landscape and the lengths people will go for fame or fortune, the execution, as suggested by its modest critical reception (IMDb rating of 3.2/10), appears to tread a fine line between biting commentary and outright silliness. Starring Michael Barrett, David Foy Bauer, and Alex Beh, "Couch Survivor" is a curious artifact of the mid-2010s comedy scene, likely appealing to those who enjoy cringe humor and a behind-the-scenes look at the desperate machinations of a failing network.
