CONVERT OR BURN: THE BRUTAL REALITY OF THE SPANISH INQUISITION | SECRET FILES OF THE INQUISITION

Cinemavixion Review

This documentary delves into the harrowing era of the Spanish Inquisition, focusing on the tragic fate of the Conversos. It masterfully reconstructs the political and religious climate of 15th-century Spain, where Fernando and Isabel, newly crowned as Catholic Monarchs, sought to consolidate their power. The film vividly illustrates how these rulers, in their quest to expel the last vestiges of Muslim rule, turned their attention to Jewish converts to Christianity. Accused of insincerity and betrayal, the Conversos became the primary targets of a brutal and systematic campaign of terror orchestrated by the newly formed Spanish Inquisition. The narrative effectively highlights the intersection of faith, power, and persecution, offering a stark look at how religious fervor could be weaponized to enforce conformity and eliminate perceived threats to the established order. This is a compelling examination of a dark chapter in history, emphasizing the devastating consequences of intolerance.
