COFFEE IN WINTER

Cinemavixion Review

Manjeet S Gill's "Coffee in Winter" is a contemplative drama that delves into the complexities of modern relationships and societal pressures within British Indian society. Inspired by the deliberate pacing and observational style of Hou Hsiao-Hsien, the film follows a young professional who, in pursuing his passion for photography, finds himself at a crossroads in his marriage. As his connection with a German student deepens, the narrative subtly exposes the growing chasm between him and his wife, highlighting themes of personal fulfillment versus marital obligation and the often-unspoken anxieties surrounding status. While the film may operate at a slower tempo, its poetic approach and nuanced exploration of emotional landscapes offer a rewarding experience for those who appreciate character-driven narratives. The performances effectively convey the internal struggles and unspoken tensions that define the characters' lives.
