CLEOPATRA: HER REAL STORY

Cinemavixion Review

This documentary, "Cleopatra: Her Real Story," compellingly challenges conventional perceptions of the legendary queen. Moving beyond the simplistic portrayals of a mere seductress or tragic figure, the film asserts that Cleopatra VII was, in fact, a shrewd and formidable ruler. Hailing from a distinguished Greek-Macedonian lineage, her reign was characterized by strategic maneuvering, political intrigue, and a fierce determination to preserve a declining Egypt. The documentary posits that her life story has been significantly distorted over centuries, subject to romanticization, vilification, and outright misrepresentation. Directed by Curtis Ryan Woodside and featuring insights from figures like Sofia Aziz and Zahi Hawass, the film endeavors to sift through layers of bias and myth. It prompts viewers to contemplate the true nature of Cleopatra: was she a manipulative monarch, an early feminist icon, or a figure shaped by Roman propaganda? The film invites an active engagement from the audience, encouraging them to form their own conclusions about the woman behind the enduring legend, offering a refreshing perspective on a historical figure often reduced to caricature.
