CHICAGO AT THE CROSSROAD

Cinemavixion Review

Brian Schodorf's 2019 documentary, "Chicago at the Crossroad," offers a compelling, albeit somber, examination of the persistent gun violence plaguing Chicago's segregated communities. While other major U.S. cities have seen a decline in such violence, this film probes the systemic issues that continue to fuel it in Chicago. Through potent archival footage and a narrative that traces the historical roots of segregation and mass displacement, Schodorf crafts a historical window into the creation of impoverished neighborhoods and the devastating aftermath. The film, which has garnered attention with 6 wins and 2 nominations, features notable figures such as Jesse Jackson and Leon Rogers, alongside "Glc." Despite its critical reception, indicated by an IMDb rating of 5.9/10, "Chicago at the Crossroad" serves as a vital, thought-provoking piece for anyone seeking to understand the complex socio-economic factors contributing to urban violence.
