CHARLIE CHAPLIN: THE RINK

Cinemavixion Review

This short film, "The Rink," presents Charlie Chaplin in a dual role as both a clumsy waiter and the suave "Sir Cecil Seltzer." The narrative follows Charlie's lunch break escapades on roller skates, a sequence that culminates in a surprisingly graceful ballet. The plot then shifts to a party hosted by Edna, where romantic entanglements and comedic misunderstandings ensue, particularly involving Mr. Stout and his advances towards Edna. Chaplin's signature blend of physical comedy and underlying pathos shines through, even in this early work, offering a delightful glimpse into the evolution of his iconic persona.
