CHAPTER 27

Cinemavixion Review

J.P. Schaefer's 'Chapter 27' offers a chilling and claustrophobic descent into the psyche of Mark David Chapman, the man who would tragically end the life of John Lennon. Jared Leto, unrecognizable and deeply committed, portrays Chapman's obsessive unraveling in the days leading up to the infamous event. The film masterfully captures the suffocating paranoia and distorted logic of a disturbed individual, creating an uncomfortable yet compelling viewing experience. While the external data notes a critical reception that leans towards the negative, particularly on Rotten Tomatoes, and a modest box office performance, the film's strength lies in its unflinching, albeit bleak, character study. Schaefer's direction ensures that the narrative, though focused on a dark subject, is a potent exploration of obsession and the fragile nature of fame.
