CHAPTER 27

Cinemavixion Review

J.P. Schaefer's "Chapter 27" offers a chilling and claustrophobic descent into the psyche of Mark David Chapman, portrayed with unsettling intensity by Jared Leto. The film meticulously reconstructs the days leading up to the assassination of John Lennon, focusing not on the act itself, but on the obsessive spiral of the killer. Leto's performance is a physical and emotional tour de force, capturing Chapman's fractured state with visceral commitment. While the film's deliberate pacing and unflinching portrayal of obsession may prove challenging for some viewers, it provides a stark, albeit grim, character study. The supporting cast, including Lindsay Lohan, adds texture to Chapman's isolated world. Despite a critical reception that noted its disturbing nature, "Chapter 27" stands as a potent, if uncomfortable, exploration of fandom, notoriety, and the dark corners of the human mind.
