CHALLENGING TRADITION: LGBT CLERGY IN THE CHURCH OF ENGLAND

Cinemavixion Review

This documentary delves into the complex and deeply personal struggles of LGBT clergy within the Church of England. Through the candid testimonies of priests like Michael and Andrew, it illuminates the profound internal and external conflicts faced when deeply held faith intersects with personal identity and relationships. Michael’s poignant account of wrestling with his own beliefs versus societal and religious doctrines highlights the emotional toll of such dissonance. Andrew’s experience of potential discrimination after marrying his male partner underscores the ongoing challenges and the perceived 'blacklisting' within the institution. By giving voice to these individuals, the film serves as a powerful testament to the internal movement for change, demonstrating how those within the Church’s own ranks are spearheading the advocacy for greater acceptance and reinterpretation of scripture regarding non-heterosexual relationships.
