CECIL

Cinemavixion Review

In "Cecil," director Spenser Fritz presents a charming, albeit lightly-plotted, family comedy that tackles themes of acceptance and self-identity. Set in 1996, the film follows young Cecil Stevens, who, burdened by a lisp that makes his own name a source of embarrassment, decides to adopt the moniker of basketball legend Michael Jordan. This premise sets the stage for a narrative exploring the challenges of fitting in and the courage it takes to embrace one's true self, even when it deviates from the norm. While the film may not reach the heights of critical acclaim, its heartwarming message and relatable characters, including those played by Jason London and Jenna von Oÿ, offer a gentle reminder about the importance of inclusivity and understanding within a school community. "Cecil" is a simple yet effective tale for younger audiences, encouraging them to look beyond superficial differences and appreciate the unique qualities in everyone.
