BROKEN

Cinemavixion Review

Broken, released in 2016, presents a poignant and unsettling narrative centered on Evie, a young woman seeking refuge from a traumatic past in the English countryside. Morjana Alaoui delivers a compelling performance as Evie, whose attempt at a fresh start is complicated by her new role as a caregiver to a tetraplegic patient. The film masterfully explores the blurred lines of caregiving, as the demands of the job dredge up Evie's buried traumas, forcing her to confront her own morality and the psychological toll of her experiences. Director Shaun Robert Smith, alongside co-writer Craig Conway, crafts an atmosphere of mounting tension, where the protagonist's internal struggles manifest in increasingly disturbing ways. While the film may not shy away from difficult themes, it offers a thought-provoking examination of resilience, guilt, and the profound impact of past events on present lives, making it a noteworthy entry for those seeking character-driven dramas.
