In 'Brand of the Outlaw' (1936), Robert N. Bradbury directs Bob Steele in a classic tale of mistaken identity and Western justice. Steele portrays Bill Holbrook, a man wrongly accused of a crime committed by the notorious bandit Bat. To clear his name, Holbrook orchestrates a daring prison escape, setting out to prove his innocence. He learns that the real Bat bears a distinctive brand on his wrist, a detail that becomes crucial in his quest. Adopting the persona of the outlaw everyone believes him to be, Holbrook infiltrates Bat's gang. His plan is twofold: to expose the true culprit and, in doing so, reclaim his own reputation. The film delves into themes of deception, courage, and the blurred lines between justice and vigilantism in the Old West, featuring notable performances from Margaret Marquis and Jack Rockwell.
