Cinemavixion Review

This documentary delves into the remarkable life of Jack Johnson, charting his journey from the post-slavery era to becoming the first African American heavyweight boxing champion. The film scrutinizes not only his triumphs in the ring but also the societal upheaval his very existence caused in early 20th-century America. It highlights his defiance against prevailing racial norms, his struggles both professionally and personally, and his eventual exile. The narrative also touches upon the media's role in sensationalizing crimes of the 20th century, using Johnson's story as a lens to examine the intersection of celebrity, scandal, and justice. It's a compelling look at a figure who embodied resilience and resistance.
