BLOOD & OIL (OLOIBIRI)

Cinemavixion Review

The film "Blood & Oil (Oloibiri)" plunges viewers into the complex aftermath of resource exploitation in a Nigerian village. Set two decades after the initial oil boom left behind a legacy of environmental damage and economic instability, the narrative ignites when a new multinational corporation rediscovers oil. This resurgence of external interest, symbolized by the kidnapping of CEO Powell (William R. Moses), forces a reckoning with the past. The film poignantly explores themes of revenge and reconciliation, particularly through the village elder Timpriye (Olu Jacobs) as he grapples with the moral dilemma of saving the man who represents the very forces that have ravaged his community. The presence of Gunpowder (Richard Mofe-Damijo) as a hardened militant leader underscores the deep-seated rage and the fight for justice. "Blood & Oil (Oloibiri)" serves as a powerful commentary on the enduring consequences of the global oil industry on local populations.
