Albert Pyun's 1997 action flick "Blast" delivers a familiar yet serviceable thriller centered on an unlikely hero. Linden Ashby stars as Jack Bryant, a former Olympic gymnast whose life has taken a downward spiral, now working as a janitor. When terrorists seize the U.S. Olympic swim team, threatening their lives unless their demands are met, Bryant finds himself the only one capable of intervening. The plot, while leaning into established action tropes, gains a slight edge from its Olympic backdrop and the protagonist's past athletic prowess. Ashby, known for his role in "Mortal Kombat: Annihilation," brings a grounded performance to Bryant, portraying a man pushed to his limits.
