BLACK PIRATES

Cinemavixion Review

Allen H. Minor's "Black Pirates" plunges viewers into a swashbuckling adventure set against the vibrant backdrop of San Salvador. The film masterfully intertwines themes of greed, faith, and the clash of cultures as a band of pirates, led by the formidable Anthony Dexter, seeks buried treasure only to find their prize lies beneath a local church. The narrative, penned by "Star Trek" veteran Fred Freiberger, skillfully navigates the expected tropes of pirate lore while introducing compelling twists. Dexter's portrayal of the ruthless pirate chief is central to the film's tension, complemented by a solid supporting cast including Robert Clarke and Martha Roth. Filmed on location, the movie offers a visual richness that enhances its hot-blooded tale. While perhaps not as widely recognized as other genre entries, "Black Pirates" stands as a spirited and engaging exploration of avarice and its consequences, a hidden gem for aficionados of classic adventure cinema.
