BIDEFORD WITCH TRIALS: THE LAST WITCHES IN ENGLAND

Cinemavixion Review

This documentary delves into the grim and often overlooked history of the Bideford witch trials, presenting the tragic story of Temperance Lloyd, Mary Trembles, and Susannah Edwards. In 1682, these women from England's South-West became the last to be executed for witchcraft in the country. The narrative powerfully illustrates how flimsy evidence and the indifference of authorities led to their unjust conviction and hanging. Their fate serves as a stark reminder of the societal anxieties and persecutions of the seventeenth century, highlighting the devastating consequences of fear and superstition. The film offers a compelling look at a dark chapter in English legal and social history.
