BERSERKERS: THE VIKINGS THAT TOOK MAGIC MUSHROOMS BEFORE BATTLE | ANCIENT BLACK OPS | CHRONICLE

Cinemavixion Review

This Chronicle documentary delves into the enigmatic world of Viking Berserkers, exploring the potent blend of warrior culture and rumored psychoactive substance use that fueled their legendary ferocity. The narrative traces their origins, highlighting the pivotal 793 raid on Lindisfarne as the dawn of the Viking Age. It paints a vivid picture of these elite warriors, believed by some to wield supernatural strength, and their terrifying efficiency in targeting wealthy, vulnerable settlements. The film also touches upon the eventual societal shift that led to the outlawing of Berserkers, a consequence of their extreme and uncontrollable violence. While the exact nature of their 'fuel' remains shrouded in historical debate, the documentary offers a compelling look at a fearsome aspect of Viking history, prompting reflection on the complex relationship between warfare, ritual, and altered states of consciousness in ancient societies.
