BENEATH US

Cinemavixion Review

Max Pachman's 2019 thriller, "Beneath Us," plunges viewers into a grim reflection of the American Dream's darker side. The film masterfully crafts a narrative where a group of undocumented day laborers, seeking a substantial payday, find themselves ensnared in a terrifying fight for survival orchestrated by a wealthy couple. Starring Lynn Collins and James Tupper as the affluent antagonists, and featuring strong performances from Rigo Sanchez and Josue Aguirre, the movie effectively transforms a secluded mansion into a claustrophobic battleground. While critics noted its unsettling premise and tension, "Beneath Us" garnered a mixed reception, with Rotten Tomatoes awarding it 22% and Metacritic scoring it 40/100, reflecting a divisive response to its grim portrayal of exploitation and desperation. Despite its critical reception, the film offers a compelling, albeit harrowing, cinematic experience that underscores themes of class struggle and the perilous realities faced by those seeking opportunity in a foreign land.
