BELA LUGOSI MEETS A BROOKLYN GORILLA

Cinemavixion Review

William Beaudine's "Bela Lugosi Meets a Brooklyn Gorilla" is a curious cinematic artifact, blending slapstick comedy with B-movie horror tropes. The film centers on the comedic duo of Mitchell and Petrillo, channeling the popular Martin & Lewis formula, as they find themselves stranded on a remote island. Their misadventures escalate with the introduction of a mad scientist, Dr. Zabor, and the legendary Bela Lugosi, whose presence adds a unique, albeit campy, layer to the proceedings. Despite a modest critical reception, evidenced by a 29% score on Rotten Tomatoes, the film's earnest commitment to its absurd premise and the novelty of its titular pairing make it a noteworthy watch for aficionados of vintage comedy and cult horror. The interplay between the knockabout humor and the bizarre scientific experiments offers a distinctively offbeat viewing experience.
