BEHIND THE RACE TO THE MOON

Cinemavixion Review

In "Behind the Race to the Moon," director Charles Pellegrino crafts a sobering chronicle of the intense Cold War space competition, revealing the often-unseen human cost. Released in 2002, this documentary delves into the perilous realities of the lunar ambitions of both the United States and the former Soviet Union. It unflinchingly presents evidence of numerous accidents, questionable safety protocols, and the tragic loss of hundreds of lives that were casualties of this high-stakes technological and ideological race. The film serves as a stark reminder that behind the triumphs of space exploration lay a foundation built on immense risk and sacrifice, a narrative often overshadowed by the monumental achievements themselves. It's a compelling, albeit grim, look at a pivotal era in human history.
