BEFORE THE STORM: THE EARLY DAYS OF THE VIETNAM WAR

Cinemavixion Review

This documentary delves into the often-overlooked early stages of American involvement in the Vietnam War, specifically focusing on the period before the major deployment of combat troops in 1965. It examines the efforts of Army personnel who volunteered to assist South Vietnamese forces, not through direct combat, but by aiming to improve the living standards in a nation grappling with poverty. The film critically assesses the methods employed in these aid campaigns and poses a crucial question: did these early initiatives achieve their intended objectives? It offers a valuable perspective on the complex socio-political landscape and the initial, less-publicized phases of a conflict that would profoundly shape international relations.
