BEAUTY AND THE BEAST

Cinemavixion Review

This 2010 rendition of "Beauty and the Beast," directed by David Lister, offers a decidedly darker and more horrific interpretation of the classic fairy tale. Eschewing the traditional romantic narrative, the film plunges into a grim morality play where forbidden love between the beautiful Belle and a misunderstood Beast is overshadowed by a series of brutal murders. As the Beast is unjustly hunted, Belle and he must unite to unmask the true culprit: a malevolent troll serving a power-hungry witch. While the film's IMDb rating of 3.1 suggests a challenging reception, its unique genre-bending approach, blending fantasy and horror with a twisted love story, might appeal to those seeking a departure from conventional fairy tale adaptations. The Canadian-Australian production, starring Estella Warren and Rhett Giles, presents a visual landscape that leans into the macabre, promising a unique, albeit grim, viewing experience.
