BATTLE OF THE WORLDS

Cinemavixion Review

Antonio Margheriti's "Battle of the Worlds" (1961) presents a classic science fiction premise: an impending planetary collision that escalates into an extraterrestrial invasion. The film, starring Claude Rains, Bill Carter, and Umberto Orsini, pits humanity's space fleets against a mysterious armada launched from a seemingly dead planet. While the plot description suggests a grander scale, the Italian production often grounds itself in the B-movie sensibilities of its era. Despite its modest 4.3 IMDb rating, "Battle of the Worlds" offers a glimpse into the imaginative space opera narratives that captivated audiences in the early 1960s, showcasing creative, albeit dated, special effects and a sense of cosmic dread.
