BATTLE OF THE BRUSH: WALTER SICKERT VS JOHN SINGER SARGENT WITH WALDEMAR JANUSZCZAK

Cinemavixion Review

Waldemar Januszczak delves into a fascinating artistic rivalry in "Battle Of The Brush: Walter Sickert Vs John Singer Sargent." This documentary compellingly pits two titans of early 20th-century painting against each other, exploring their most striking and provocative works. Januszczak masterfully conjures the vanished ambiance of Edwardian London, transporting viewers to a bygone era. More than just a study of two artists, the film argues that Sickert and Sargent, both immigrants, were engaged in a profound battle for the very essence of British art. It's a rich exploration of artistic vision and cultural impact, highlighting how these painters shaped the future of the nation's artistic landscape.
