BATTLE OF BRISBANE: HOW WW2 CHANGED AUSTRALIA FOREVER

Cinemavixion Review

This documentary, 'Battle of Brisbane: How WW2 Changed Australia Forever,' offers a fascinating glimpse into a pivotal, yet often overlooked, period of Australian history. The film meticulously details Brisbane's transformation from a quiet colonial town into a crucial hub for the Pacific War effort in 1941. The influx of 100,000 American military personnel dramatically accelerated the city's development, leaving an indelible mark on its trajectory. The narrative skillfully contrasts this period of rapid change with Queensland's subsequent political conservatism, notably highlighting the controversial hosting of a South African rugby team during apartheid. It prompts reflection on how historical events shape not only physical landscapes but also enduring societal attitudes, making it a compelling watch for those interested in the intricate tapestry of Australian history.
