BASQUIAT: RAGE TO RICHES

Cinemavixion Review

David Shulman's "Basquiat: Rage to Riches" is a compelling documentary that delves into the electrifying and tragically short career of Jean-Michel Basquiat. The film masterfully chronicles his swift ascent from the vibrant graffiti scene of New York City to becoming a global art phenomenon. Leveraging intimate interviews with Basquiat's sisters and candid insights from prominent figures in the art world, the documentary probes the complex interplay of race, identity, fame, and artistic genius that defined his work. "Basquiat: Rage to Riches" captures the raw, untamed energy that fueled an artist who irrevocably altered the landscape of contemporary art. His journey, as depicted in the film, is a captivating narrative—simultaneously beautiful, brutal, and ultimately poignant. The film, which has been recognized with BAFTA accolades, offers a profound look at an artist whose legacy continues to resonate.
