BALKAN ROYALS | ARISTOCRACY AFTER COMMUNISM

Cinemavixion Review

In "Balkan Royals | Aristocracy after Communism," director Alix François Meier offers a compelling look at the resurgence of royal families in post-communist Eastern Europe. The documentary skillfully navigates the complex legacy of communism and the subsequent restoration of monarchical influence. It highlights how these once-ostracized dynasties have re-emerged as significant figures, serving as symbols of national identity and stability. The film focuses on compelling examples, including Bulgaria's Simeon Saxe-Coburg-Gotha and Montenegro's heir apparent, Nicholas. It also touches upon the legacy of Michael I of Romania and his daughter, Crown Princess Margareta. Meier illustrates how these royal houses, deeply intertwined with their nations' histories, provide a crucial link to the past and a point of identification for contemporary societies. "Balkan Royals" is a fascinating exploration of tradition, identity, and the enduring allure of aristocracy in a rapidly changing world.
