BAKUR: THE FIRST INSIDE LOOK AT THE PKK’S GUERRILLA LIFE

Cinemavixion Review

BAKUR: Inside the PKK offers a rare and clandestine glimpse into the lives of Kurdish separatist fighters, a group considered a terrorist organization by several major powers. Filmed in secret within the Turkish borders, this documentary delves into the heart of an undeclared war that has persisted for decades. It bravely seeks to understand the PKK's perspective on the state, justice, and authority, exploring the evolution of the Kurdish movement and its deep connection to the women's rights movement. The film intimately portrays the daily existence of guerrillas who have endured 40 years of conflict, surviving in harsh mountain conditions. Through footage from three distinct camps, viewers witness the rigorous training of new recruits and the progressive philosophies that shape their chosen path, providing a compelling, albeit controversial, look at a long-standing conflict.
