BABES WITH BLADES

Cinemavixion Review

Cecily Fay's "Babes with Blades" plunges viewers into the steampunk world of Draiga, a planet under the oppressive thumb of the Visray Empire. This 2018 action film, also penned and directed by Fay, showcases a formidable ensemble of female martial artists, led by a compelling performance from Fay herself as Azura. The narrative centers on Azura, the last of the Sarnian warriors, who must navigate the brutal gladiatorial arenas and a burgeoning human resistance to save her dying race and the colonized world. While the film's IMDb rating suggests a niche appeal, its commitment to practical action sequences and a focused, if grim, narrative makes it a noteworthy entry for fans of independent steampunk cinema. The intricate world-building and the sheer grit displayed by its lead characters are commendable, offering a unique blend of sci-fi action and martial arts prowess.
