BABES IN TOYLAND (MARCH OF THE WOODEN SOLDIERS)

Cinemavixion Review

This 1934 musical fantasy, "Babes in Toyland" (also known as "March of the Wooden Soldiers"), presents a charmingly old-fashioned adventure. Starring the iconic comedy duo Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy as the bumbling but good-hearted Ollie Dee and Stanley Dum, the film follows their efforts to save Mother Peep's toy shop from the villainous Barnaby. Their attempts to thwart Barnaby's greedy schemes and his marriage proposal to the sweet Little Bo Peep lead to a whimsical battle against his menacing boogeymen. While the narrative unfolds with a predictable, fairy-tale logic, the true magic lies in Laurel and Hardy's timeless comedic performances. Their physical gags and endearing chemistry provide consistent amusement, making this a delightful watch for those seeking a nostalgic journey into a land of toys and simple, heartfelt heroism.
