ATTACK OF THE GIANT TEACHER

Cinemavixion Review

Yoshikazu Ishii's "Attack of the Giant Teacher" (2019) presents a uniquely Japanese blend of quirky high school drama and kaiju mayhem. The film centers on Kenzo Miyazawa, a dedicated teacher at a struggling night school whose earnest efforts to connect with his eccentric students are threatened by the institution's impending closure. In a heartwarming, albeit unconventional, act of defiance, Miyazawa and his class decide to stage a musical for the school's final festival. However, their plans are dramatically interrupted by the arrival of an alien beast intent on destroying their town. What follows is a surprisingly earnest challenge from teacher to monster, a narrative that pivots from the mundane struggles of education to the extraordinary battle for survival. While the film may not boast a large budget, its charm lies in its earnest performances and its imaginative premise, offering a delightful if somewhat niche cinematic experience that fans of offbeat sci-fi and heartfelt stories might find appealing.
